Culture & Literature-Oriented Coursework Samples
These are a few selections from my coursework, relating to my papers taken from my culture and literature related courses.
ANTH 2010 | Introduction to Anthropology | Fall 2024
This course was a brief introduction into the studies of anthropology, covering humanity's origins and biological traits as communities formed and evolved, as well as a short foray into biology, genetics, and linguistics. The final research paper detailed an ethnographic analysis through the lens of an alien, a third party 'source'.
LANG 3000 | Introduction to Linguistics (HON) | Fall 2025
Introductions to syntax, phonemes, and morphemes were key elements to the course lectures and initial project. The second half of the course focused on language as part of culture, and how different dialects affect communities. In addition to the final project, I wrote a research paper for my Honors-contract component, writing about the significance of linguistic diversity, especially within the context of the American 'graveyard' for languages. As a case study, I researched my ancestral history of the ethnoreligious groups of the Mennonite and Amish.
ENGL 2020 | Literary Forms + Creative Writing | Spring 2024
In this course we were challenged with writing various pieces from different perspectives, exploring our individual identity and voice, but also experimenting with playing a character or characters within a dialogue-based creative story. This sample features an essay written from my personal and familial background.
